Universally Accessible Playground at LA Orthopaedic

Today I had the joy of visiting what is destined to become the most utilized universally accessible playground in the United States.  The playground is designed as a place where children with and without disabilities can play together.  The LA Orthopaedic Hospital estimates that over 40 thousand children with disabilities will come here to play every year, together with 85,000 children without disabilities.  The hospital has also partnered with the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks to allow the public to access the park every day of the week.

My favorite part might have been the dragon fountain.  Or a spinner that was something like a carousel and a spaceship rolled into one.  No, I’m lying.  Hands down, my favorite was a wheelchair accessible slide that played music as you slid down.  Different notes depending on where you touched on the slide.  The whole thing was awesome.
