It seems everyone is getting into philanthropy, even fictional characters. In the show LOST, Hugo Reyes uses much of his vast alternate-reality fortune (just go with it) to provide philanthropic support. You can watch the episode here and see for yourself. The script specifically mentions Hugo’s philanthropy towards parks, playgrounds, and hospitals. In the episode, there are clear shots of new construction, an “experimental farm”, and kids standing in front of an elephant in the montage announcing Hugo’s award. Even in the fictional setting, a philanthropist is honored with the, “Man of the Year” award. Clearly philanthropy is an important part of our culture. Interesting tidbit: during the slide show in the award ceremony, Hugo is shown with in a Humane Society shirt with a tiny Chihuahua. Turns out that’s his dog in real life, her name is Nunu. You can see some adorable pictures of her here.
